DIY Kitchen Cabinet Painting
Many homeowners want to update their kitchen. If you have an older home, you might have oak wood cabinets which can look dated in 2016. The good news is that you can repaint them and give your kitchen a whole new fresh updated look!
To start, you will want to remove all the cabinet doors and hardware. Make sure you number each door so that you can put them back on the correct box when you are done. Next, wash all your cabinets with soapy water to remove any grease and then, you will want to use a deglosser or sander to remove the glossy finish on your cabinets so that the new paint will adhere properly.
Then, depending on how dark your doors were to begin with and if you have chosen to paint them white, you may want to cover them (both front and back) with a coat of primer. Then you can add two coats of paint to each side and finally, add a finishing gloss to protect your “new” cabinets.
The most time consuming part is the prep and depending on the number of cabinets you have, you may want to plan on doing this project over the course of a couple of week-ends.
