Method for Painting Wood Trim for DIY Homeowners
Painting walls in your home is fairly straightforward, especially if you are using a good quality paint. Painting wood trim and baseboards is another matter for DIY homeowners. You want nice clean lines if you are painting your trim the traditional white. This is where inexperienced painters get the most frustrated. The best advice is to use an angled brush that is approximately 2 inches wide. You can use painter’s tape to ensure straight lines but you should know that if you’ve done any plastering repairs that the tape might undo your handy work. Also, if you use a cheap tape, you may have the paint leaking underneath which creates a bit of a mess.
The best and easiest way to paint trim is to do it freehand and have a wet jay cloth handy to wipe up any mistakes right away. With practice, you will be able to do a really great job with this. Just know that latex paint wipes up easily when it is still wet but oil based paint will not wipe up as easily.
