How to Know How Much Paint You Will Need

One big question that many homeowners have when taking on a DIY painting project is how much paint they will need.  And, the answer isn’t always the same.  Sometimes it depends on the texture of the walls because some surfaces can absorb a lot more paint than others.  And, it also depends on the existing colour on the walls.  Dark colours are going to require more paint to cover it, especially if you are repainting the walls a lighter colour.

In general however, you can cover about 450 to 500 square feet of wall space with a standard can of paint.  And, most of the time, you will need to prime first because most paints have primer included in the mix for better coverage.  Your best bet is to talk to an expert at your local paint store like Benjamin Moor or Sherwin Williams or contact a local painter to take care of the job for you.
